Trump considering 'relaunch' amid fears of economic collapse

(Patria) – US President Donald Trump said on Monday that he is considering the possibility of restarting the American economy when the official two-week lockdown ends next week.

Trump made these statements despite the rapid spread of the virus in the US, where the total number of confirmed cases is 46,145, 582 people have died, and the healthcare system has long been in fear of how it will cope with hospitalization needs.

"America will be open again soon," Trump said at a White House press conference, emphasizing that he "will not let this turn into a long-term problem."

A two-week measure of business closures and citizen isolation is in effect in the US, which worries Trump because it has already caused enormous financial losses, as elsewhere in the world, which cannot fail to have long-term consequences.

Trump told reporters that there is a possibility of reactivating economic activities in states that record relatively low infection rates, such as Nebraska, Idaho, and Iowa, while the fight against the epidemic continues in the most affected parts of the country, such as New York.

"If doctors had their way, they would shut down the whole world," Trump commented.

Trump, who had hoped to base his election campaign on a strong economy, faces economic collapse and a rapidly growing number of epidemic victims. New York hospitals are in such a crisis that Mayor Bill de Blasio claims that "if we don't get ventilators in the next 10 days, people will die who didn't have to die."

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, a close advisor to the US President, believes that "medical advice should be respected in terms of suppressing the virus" and explains that it is "okay to reduce the pressure on the economy, but the primary focus should be on suppressing and defeating the virus. And we will have to bear the economic consequences."
