Trump: Ceasefire between Israel and Iran progressing ‘very well’

(Patria) - US President Donald Trump commented on the Israeli-Iranian ceasefire on the sidelines of the NATO summit in The Hague.

Addressing reporters alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Trump said he believes the ceasefire is progressing “very well”.

He said he was “proud” of Israel because they “returned the planes yesterday” after he appealed for them not to carry out a planned airstrike on Iran, which he believed would jeopardise the ceasefire.

“It was great,” Trump said.

After a call with Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said he would proceed with the attack on Iran on a smaller scale, claiming it was necessary due to Iran’s alleged violation of the ceasefire, but that he would refrain from further attacks.

According to published information, a radar in Tehran was hit.

Asked about potential Iranian plans to continue uranium enrichment, US President Donald Trump said the last thing they want is to enrich anything at this point.

“They want to recover. Can you imagine that after all this they say: ‘Oh, let’s go and make a bomb’,” Trump added. “They won’t have a bomb and they won’t enrich uranium.”

Trump confusingly continued by saying that the US attack on Iranian nuclear sites was “a huge victory for everyone, even for Iran”.

“Look, they have a country, they have oil and they are very smart people and they can come back,” Trump said, adding that he thinks the US will “eventually have some kind of relationship” with that country.
