(Patria) - Former US President and current candidate for the Republican Party's presidential nomination Donald Trump believes that the court ruling in Washington, which states he does not have immunity, is destroying the American nation.
"The President of the United States must have full immunity in order to do what is good for our country. This ruling that destroys the American nation must not be allowed to stand," Trump stated on the social network TruthSocial.
He reacted in this way to the ruling of the court in Washington, which states that the former US President does not have presidential immunity and can be sued on charges of conspiracy to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
Trump said that if not overturned, the decision would "terribly harm" the institution of the US President and the country itself.
"The President will be afraid to act for fear of vicious retaliation from the opposing side after leaving office. I know from personal experience, as I am going through this right now. This will become a political weapon to interfere in elections," said Trump.
Trump is expected to appeal the ruling, meaning the case could reach the Supreme Court, where conservatives have a 6:3 majority.
US Special Counsel Jack Smith accused Trump of planning to overturn Joseph Biden's victory in the 2020 election and of committing a criminal offense to remain in office.
