(Patria) - US President Donald Trump stated that he was told that killings in Iranian measures against national protests are subsiding and that he believes there is currently no plan for mass executions, even as tensions between Tehran and Washington remain high, Reuters reported last night.
When asked who told him that the killings had stopped, Trump said: "Very important sources on the other side".
Trump did not rule out potential US military action, saying "we will monitor what the process is like", before noting that the US administration had received "a very good statement" from Iran.
Trump's comments appeared to signal a cautious de-escalation of fears that the crisis in Iran could escalate into a wider regional conflict. In a television interview on Monday, Trump warned that the United States would take "very strong measures" if Iranian authorities continued with the execution of demonstrators detained during widespread unrest.
