(Patria) - President Donald Trump signed a proclamation withdrawing the United States from 35 non-United Nations organizations and 31 UN entities that "act contrary to the national interests of the USA", the White House said in a statement, Reuters reported.
The White House did not specify which organizations they were, but said they promote "radical climate policies, global governance, and ideological agendas that conflict with the sovereignty and economic strength of the USA".
It is stated that this move is the result of a review of all international intergovernmental organizations, conventions, and treaties to which the United States is a member or party.
"These withdrawals will end the funding and participation of American taxpayers in entities that promote globalist agendas over US priorities or that inefficiently or ineffectively address important issues, so that American taxpayer money is best allocated in other ways to support relevant missions," the White House said.
Since the beginning of his second term, Trump has sought to reduce US funding to the UN, halt US engagement with the UN Human Rights Council, extend the suspension of funding to the Palestinian UNRWA humanitarian agency, and leave the UN cultural agency UNESCO. He also announced plans to leave the World Health Organization and the Paris Agreement on climate.
