WASHINGTON, (Patria) - US President Donald Trump signed a bill last night, ending the US government shutdown after 69 hours.
Democrats in the Senate agreed to temporary government funding in exchange for a promise from Republicans to address immigration in the coming weeks.
This has led Democrats and their Senate leader Chuck Schumer to face criticism because they not only agreed to a bill very similar to the one offered on Friday, before the shutdown, but it is also uncertain whether they will succeed in protecting hundreds of thousands of young immigrants from deportation.
The disappointment of activists, according to American media, could have a negative impact on Democrats' chances in the November Senate elections.
On the other hand, Republicans have only gained three weeks of funding with the agreement and will have to deal with immigration, an issue that is a major problem for them.
- There are no winners. Absolutely no winners. The question is who lost the most - believes Republican pollster Franck Lanz.
