US President Donald Trump signed the Protocol on Montenegro's accession to NATO, which was recently adopted by the Senate of the most powerful member of the Alliance, thus officially concluding the ratification process in the US.
The Senate ratified the Protocol on Montenegro's accession to NATO at the end of March.
The resolution on Montenegro's membership was adopted by an overwhelming majority of votes from senators of both parties – 97 voted in favour, while only two senators, Rand Paul and Mike Lee, were against.
Spain still needs to ratify the Protocol on Montenegro's accession, while in the Netherlands, the legal deadline for organizing a potential referendum needs to pass.
Foreign Minister Srđan Darmanović stated earlier that Montenegro could participate in the NATO summit in May as a full member, and be formally admitted afterwards. Defence Minister Predrag Bošković expects the same, reports RTCG, as relayed by Patria.
