(Patria) - President Donald Trump stated that he supports aggressive actions against drug cartels and drug production in Mexico and Colombia, but did not announce any direct US military intervention, Reuters reported.
Trump has intensified his campaign against maritime drug trafficking, approving stronger interdiction operations and giving US forces expanded authority to disable or sink vessels suspected of carrying narcotics.
When asked at an Oval Office event if he supported similar ground operations in Mexico to stop drug trafficking, Trump said: "I agree, whatever we have to do to stop drugs."
Later, he raised the possibility of targeting cocaine labs in Colombia.
"Would I destroy those factories? I would be proud to do it personally," Trump said.
"I haven't said I'm doing it, but I would be proud to do it because we are going to save millions of lives."
