Trump designates Antifa as a terrorist organization

(Patria) - United States President Donald Trump announced that the far-left anti-fascist movement Antifa is being declared a terrorist organization, announcing this move on his Truth Social platform.

"I am pleased to inform our many American patriots that I am designating Antifa, a sick, dangerous, radical left disaster, as a major terrorist organization. I will also strongly recommend that those who finance Antifa be thoroughly investigated," Trump stated.

However, it is unclear what legal mechanism the White House will use for such a designation, as Antifa has no formal structure or leadership, making it difficult to define who exactly would be targeted. An administration official told CNN that this is "one of the president's many actions against left-wing groups that incite political violence."

The announcement comes after the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, and Trump's associates claim that a "coordinated left-wing effort" is behind the violence. Democrats, however, have warned that this is an attempt to suppress opposition and justify a crackdown on dissenters.

Trump also promised in his first term to put Antifa on the list of terrorist organizations, but legal experts point out that US laws provide for sanctions only against foreign terrorist groups, while domestic movements like Antifa do not fall under the same framework.

In addition, Trump announced the possibility of revoking tax benefits for liberal NGOs, as well as indicting individuals and groups through the RICO racketeering law.
