(Patria) - Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump blamed current US President Joseph Biden and his Democratic rival Kamala Harris for the assassination attempt on him last month, accusing them of making it difficult for the Secret Service to protect him.
Trump made this claim, for which he offered no evidence, during an appearance on Phil McGraw's talk show "Dr Phil", reports "The Guardian".
It was previously reported that several Secret Service agents from the Pittsburgh office were placed on administrative leave following the attack on Trump on July 13 in Pennsylvania.
"When that happened, people wondered whose fault it was. I think it's Biden and Harris's fault to some extent," Trump said on the TV show.
According to him, the two were not overly interested in his health and safety.
"They made it very difficult for the Secret Service to have enough necessary personnel," Trump emphasized.
In the days following the attack, the Secret Service admitted that the former president's security detail had complained about insufficient security personnel in the previous two years, and that some requests had not been answered.
However, there is no evidence that Biden and Harris, who condemned the assassination attempt, were directly involved or interfered with the work and organization of the Secret Service.
In the show, Trump also blamed Biden and Harris for political rhetoric against him, which, he suggested, could have led to the assassination attempt.
"They say I am a threat to democracy. That's a phrase they just repeat, and that can incite potential killers. That's a terrible thing. Maybe that bullet came because of their rhetoric," said the former US president.
The FBI stated that the attacker on Trump, Matthew Crooks, who was killed, acted alone and no evidence of his ideological motives was found.
