Trump blames Biden and Harris for assassination attempt: 'They are shooting at me because of their rhetoric'

(Patria) - Former US President Donald Trump yesterday blamed current President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for a second assassination attempt at his Florida golf club.

During an interview with Fox News Digital, Trump said the suspect believed the statements of Biden and Harris and acted accordingly.

"They are shooting at me because of their rhetoric. When I am the one who will save the country, and they are the ones destroying it - both internally and externally," Trump said, alluding to Biden and Harris's comments that he is a threat to democracy.

"These are people who want to destroy our country. Biden and Harris are the real threat. They use inflammatory statements. I could do that too, much better than them, but I don't," Trump emphasized.

CNN states that Trump often uses "inflammatory" rhetoric when attacking political rivals, judges overseeing his criminal cases, prosecutors who have indicted him, undocumented immigrants, people who do not support his campaign, and others.

Trump also promised retaliation if re-elected president and has repeatedly suggested he would use the justice system as a weapon to prosecute his political opponents.

He recently threatened criminal prosecution and "long prison sentences" for election officials and politicians who might cheat in the 2024 elections.
