(Patria) - Former Republican President Donald Trump said he will not debate Vice President Kamala Harris, a few hours after Fox News invited them as presidential candidates to participate in a possible second debate on October 24 or 27, Reuters reported.
Trump and Harris debated for the first time on September 10. Trump said there would be no new debate before the November 5 election. He also refused CNN's invitation for a debate on October 23, which Harris accepted.
Trump and Harris are in a close race. Fox said in its statement that a second debate would "present an opportunity for each candidate to make their closing remarks".
Last week, Vice Presidential candidate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and Senator JD Vance had a televised debate.
"THERE WILL BE NO REMATCH," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
"SO THERE IS NOTHING TO DISCUSS."
Trump said it is now very late to hold a debate.
Trump debated Democratic presidential candidate and President Joe Biden in late June. Biden withdrew as a candidate less than a month after a disastrous performance. Trump had an advantage over Biden after the debate, but Harris entered the race after Biden withdrew. Some polls show she has a slight lead.
In the September 10 debate, Harris put Trump in a position to defend himself with a series of attacks on his fitness for office, for supporting abortion restrictions, and for numerous legal issues.
