(Patria) - U.S. President Donald Trump announced that his administration will increase tariffs on cars and trucks from the EU to 25 percent as early as next week.
Trump accused Brussels of not respecting the previously agreed trade deal.
This is a new move that could further escalate trade relations between the U.S. and the EU, especially in the automotive industry sector.
"I am pleased to announce that, because the EU does not fully respect our agreed-upon trade deal, I will be increasing the tariffs we charge them for cars and trucks entering the U.S. next week.
The tariffs will be increased to 25 percent.
It is completely clear and agreed that if they produce cars and trucks in facilities in the U.S., there will be no tariffs.
A large number of car and truck factories are currently being built, with investments exceeding $100 billion, which is a record in the history of car and truck production.
These factories, employing American workers, will open soon - nothing like what is happening in America today has ever happened before," Trump stated on his Truth Social network.
