Trump: Let Zelensky and Putin declare victory, this war would never have happened if I were president

(Patria) - U.S. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was "very interesting and cordial."

Trump said he told Zelensky, as he had earlier told Vladimir Putin, that "it's time to stop the killing and reach a deal."

"Enough bloodshed. They should stop where they are. Let both declare victory, and let history decide! No more shooting, no more deaths, no more huge and unsustainable costs. This is a war that would never have happened if I were president," Trump wrote.

"Thousands of people are being killed every week — enough, go back to your families in peace!" the U.S. president urged.

Zelensky was at the White House for the third time.

Asked whether U.S. President Donald Trump gave him additional security guarantees for Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reiterated that such guarantees are crucial for his country but declined to reveal whether he received new concrete details.

"We need a strong security guarantee," Zelensky said. "Our people are afraid that if a ceasefire comes, we need guarantees from the United States that Putin will not launch aggression again."

Several European countries have already offered to send their forces to Ukraine to support a possible ceasefire brokered by Trump, but Kyiv fears that without U.S. backing, those forces would not be sufficient to deter Russia from a new invasion.
