Trump ordered deployment of 2,000 National Guard members to Los Angeles

(Patria) - U.S. President Donald Trump activated federal authority and ordered the deployment of 2,000 National Guard members to Los Angeles due to escalating violence following raids conducted by immigration services.

After two days of clashes between protesters and federal agents, Trump invoked Title 10 of the U.S. Code, which allows the president to take control of the National Guard, which is otherwise under the jurisdiction of the state governor.

According to a statement from the interim U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, Bill Essayli, the National Guard is expected to arrive in Los Angeles within 24 hours. Essayli stated that the deployment of forces is necessary to “restore order” after protesters, he claims, threw rocks and Molotov cocktails at federal officers.

The incidents followed raids conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in predominantly Latino neighborhoods of Los Angeles, which provoked strong reactions from the local community and protests across the city.

California Governor Gavin Newsom condemned Trump's decision, calling it “unnecessary and intentionally provocative,” while Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass warned that “fear is being sown in communities” and that local law enforcement has the capacity to respond to the situation.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) also reacted, calling the president's decision an “abuse of power” and warning that such a move “puts civilians and soldiers in legal and ethical danger.”

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated that if violence persists, active-duty U.S. Marines from Camp Pendleton could also be mobilized.

Clashes on the streets of Los Angeles are ongoing. According to reports from U.S. media, numerous incidents have been recorded, including injured police officers, burned cars, and disturbances of public order. Several individuals have been arrested, and certain streets have been closed due to unlawful assembly.
