(Patria) – US President Donald Trump will soon take action regarding Chinese software companies believed to be supplying data directly to the Beijing government, which represents a risk to American national security, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stated on Sunday.
- President Trump has said 'enough' and that we must address this, and in the coming days will take action regarding the wide range of national security risks posed by software connected to the Chinese Communist Party, Pompeo said on Fox News.
This news followed Trump's statement to reporters on Friday that he would ban the social network TikTok as early as Saturday.
US officials have repeatedly warned in recent months that TikTok and the Chinese group to which it currently belongs - ByteDance, pose a national risk due to the acquisition of personal data.
ByteDance has proposed to the US side in response to redirect TikTok's business in the US to Microsoft, which could be accepted, Reuters writes.
US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin stated on Sunday that the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, which among other things reviews the security implications of foreign business – is also considering this possibility.
