Trump announces fighter jet unlike anything the world has seen, equipped with cutting-edge technology and nearly invisible

(Patria) - US President Donald Trump announced yesterday that the Pentagon is awarding Boeing a contract for the production and maintenance of the sixth-generation F-47 fighter jet.

Trump described the new aircraft as "something no one has seen before," reports Index.hr.

The announcement from the White House was preceded by a fierce battle between Boeing and Lockheed Martin for the prestigious rights to build the aircraft that will form the backbone of the US Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) system.

- It will be called the F-47, the generals chose the name - Trump said.

During the ceremonial announcement in the Oval Office, Trump displayed a poster with the first depiction of the F-47 design, showing the forward fuselage and sharply swept-back wings, but no additional construction details were revealed.

The US Air Force is seeking a new aircraft with the range, speed, and stealth capabilities needed to operate effectively over the vast Indo-Pacific region and against the most advanced Chinese weapons systems, including current and future stealth fighters and anti-aircraft missile systems.

Such requirements dictate a design that goes beyond standard fighter jet categories, such as fighters or bombers.

Boeing's aircraft is expected to develop supersonic speeds, possibly without vertical control surfaces, and have a large fuselage capable of internally carrying fuel, sensors, and weapons.

However, for now, everything is at the level of speculation and what Trump said at the presentation of the new F-47.

There is no official information on specifications yet. However, the Wall Street Journal reported that it should enter production around 2030.

What is known so far is that Boeing's F-47 will succeed Lockheed's F-22 Raptor, which is considered the best US fighter jet and has been in service with the Air Force for twenty years.

In any case, the F-47 is expected to be a sixth-generation fighter jet as a response to Chinese military fighter jets, which have reportedly already tested sixth-generation fighter prototypes, while using fifth-generation ones.

Fifth-generation aircraft (such as the F-22 and F-35) are characterized by stealth technology, advanced avionics, and networked warfare, while the sixth generation brings significantly enhanced capabilities, including artificial intelligence, unmanned flight capability, more advanced stealth technologies, greater range, integration with unmanned aerial vehicles, and potentially directed-energy weapons.

Trump said that an experimental version of the F-47 has been secretly flying for almost five years. He said the aircraft will have unprecedented speed, maneuverability, and payload capacity, as well as low observability.

- We are confident that it significantly surpasses the capabilities of any other nation - Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, adding that the new fighter jet will be equipped with "the most advanced stealth technologies," making it "almost invisible."
