Trump: I could go to Pakistan if the agreement with Iran is signed in Islamabad

(Patria) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday in Washington that negotiations with Iran are close to completion, and emphasized that he could travel to Pakistan if the agreement is signed in Islamabad.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said the United States had to act to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

"We had to do something. We had to ensure that Iran never gets nuclear weapons. And now we are on that path. They have agreed to it, they have agreed to almost everything," Trump said, adding that he expects a final deal at the negotiating table.

Asked whether he would personally go to Pakistan to finalize the agreement, Trump answered affirmatively, highlighting good relations with that country.

"I would go to Pakistan. Pakistan has been great. Islamabad – I could go, yes. If the agreement is signed there, I could come. They want that," Trump said, also praising Pakistani officials, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and military leader Asim Munir.

The U.S. president concluded that the coming days could be crucial for finalizing the agreement with Iran, as well as for stabilizing relations in the Middle East.
