Trump: China is hit much harder by our tariffs than we are by theirs

(Patria) - US President Donald Trump claims that China is hit much harder by the US tariffs of 54 percent than the US will be by Chinese tariffs of 34 percent, which take effect on April 10.

Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social that China and many other countries have "behaved badly" toward the US, but that the US will now win the "economic revolution."

He stressed that jobs are now returning to the US and that there are already five trillion dollars in investments. Trump assessed that it will not be easy, but that the end result will be historic and that his strategy will be realized: "Make America Great Again."

China announced on Friday that it had filed a formal complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) over the new US tariffs, stating that these measures violate the organization's rules and that it is seeking consultations on the matter.

The WTO secretariat confirmed to Reuters that it had received a request for consultations from China's permanent mission to the organization.

Bilateral consultations are the first phase of formal dispute resolution. If no solution is found within 60 days, China could request that the case be adjudicated by the WTO dispute settlement body based in Geneva.

China announced on Friday that it is imposing retaliatory additional tariffs of 34 percent on imports of US goods. On Thursday, it called on Washington to immediately cancel the latest tariffs on imports of Chinese goods.

China's Ministry of Finance announced on Friday that it will impose tariffs of 34 percent on all goods imported from the US starting April 10.

The ministry also criticized Washington's decision to impose 34 percent additional reciprocal tariffs on China, raising total US tariffs on China to 54 percent.
