Trump: Kim has an opportunity to lead North Korea into a new era

SINGAPORE, (Patria) - After the historic meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore, US President Donald Trump stated that "there is no limit to what North Korea can do if it gives up its nuclear weapons".

- It is my honor to address the world after the historic summit with Kim Jong Un - said US President Donald Trump during a press conference in Singapore.

Speaking about Kim, he said that there is potential for North Korea to be a great place between South Korea and China, and that he thinks Kim understands this and wants to do the right thing. He emphasized that they spent "a few incredible hours together", reports Tanjug.

- I am here as a representative of the American people and I bring a message of hope, vision, and peace - said Trump, sending warm greetings to all citizens of Singapore who made this meeting pleasant.

In his speech, Trump also thanked Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, as well as Chinese President Xi Jinping.

He emphasized that this is the first meeting, which shows that real change is truly possible.

- The meeting was frank, direct, and productive - said Trump.

He emphasized that they got to know each other well in a short time.

- We are ready to start a new page of history - said the US President.

- There is no limit to what North Korea can do if it gives up its nuclear weapons.

- Kim has been given an opportunity like no other. He has an opportunity to lead North Korea into a new era - said Trump.

He stated that they signed a joint statement in which Kim agreed to the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

- He told me that he is already destroying nuclear weapons testing sites, that is not in the document, we agreed on that afterwards - he said.

He says that today is "the beginning of a new process", but that peace is worth the effort.

- Anyone can start a war, but only the bravest can work for peace and achieve peace - believes Trump.

He added that sanctions will remain in place for now.
