Trump says Kamala Harris would be easier to defeat than Biden

(Patria) - Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump stated that he believes Vice President Kamala Harris would be easier to defeat in the November election than Democratic President Joe Biden, who withdrew as his party's candidate earlier that day, Reuters reported.

"Harris will be easier to beat than Joe Biden would have been," Trump told CNN.

Trump and his campaign later also attacked Biden and Harris on social media, saying Biden was not capable of continuing to serve as president.
Biden ended his re-election campaign on Sunday after Democrats lost faith in his mental acuity and ability to defeat Trump. Biden endorsed Harris as a replacement.

On his Truth Social platform on Sunday, Trump said Biden "was not capable of running for president, and certainly not capable of serving." Trump then said, "We will suffer greatly from his presidency, but we will fix the damage he has done very quickly."

Trump and Biden have largely been tied in polls, but after the debate, some polls showed Trump slightly ahead of the president in the race for the November election.

Trump's campaign had already begun discussions about how to reallocate campaign resources for the possibility of Biden withdrawing, a source with direct knowledge of the matter said on Sunday. Given that any alternative Democratic candidate would likely have different strengths and weaknesses than Biden, the person said, the president's withdrawal would require rethinking where to spend advertising dollars and how to allocate resources.

Publicly, Trump campaign advisors and allies told reporters they were not concerned about facing Harris because they could simply tie her to Biden's record in office, particularly on immigration and inflation. They say they will try to portray Harris and any other Democratic candidate as being to the left of Biden on various policies.

After Biden withdrew, the Trump campaign said Harris had been Biden's "chief enabler."

The official YouTube channel of the Republican National Committee released a two-minute video on Sunday afternoon attacking Harris over immigration policy, stating that she had neglected the issue.

In recent weeks, Trump's campaign and some of his allies have launched preemptive political attacks on Harris to try to discredit her amid the possibility that she might replace Biden on the party's presidential ticket in 2024.

In March 2021, Biden said Harris would lead efforts with Mexico and Central American countries to address illegal immigration. Republicans have used this to accuse her of failing to stop the flow of millions of migrants illegally crossing into the United States, although she has never been directly responsible for securing the southern border.
