Trump says Russia should be readmitted to G7

(Patria) - US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he would like Russia to return to the G7 Group, saying it was a mistake for Moscow to be expelled, Reuters reported.

Russia was a member of the G7 club of industrialized democracies, then known as the G8, until Moscow was expelled after the annexation of Ukraine's Crimea region in 2014.

"I would like them to come back. I think it was a mistake to throw them out. You know, it's not a question of liking Russia or not liking Russia. It was the G8," Trump told reporters at the White House.
"I said, 'What are you doing? You guys – all you talk about is Russia and they should be at the table.' I think Putin would like to come back."

There was no immediate reaction from Canada to these comments. Canada is chairing the G7 group this year.
