(Patria) - Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump announced yesterday that, if elected US president, he would fire the federal prosecutor investigating whether he tried to overturn his 2020 election defeat.
When asked in an interview whether he would pardon himself or fire Special Counsel Jack Smith in that case, Trump replied:
"It's so simple. I'd fire him within two seconds. And no, I don't think I'd be impeached if I fired Jack Smith."
Trump spoke with conservative podcast host Hugh Hewitt, Hina reports.
Smith is leading the criminal proceedings in which Trump is accused of election subversion in the 2020 election, which was won by Democrat Joe Biden, the current US president.
