Trump and Zelensky agree: Talks to continue, Ukraine, Russia and US want to end the war

(Patria) - US and Ukrainian Presidents Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the public after a meeting they held in Florida with broader delegations.

"We had an excellent meeting, Putin and I. Zelensky and I spoke with representatives from France, Poland, Italy, Norway, Britain, Germany, the NATO chief, and Ursula Von der Leyen. We had an excellent conversation. Our meeting was excellent, we covered 95% of the topics and made great progress towards ending the war," said Trump.

"We talked about every topic, and with Putin before, the talks were very detailed. I hope you enjoyed the food, your people enjoyed the food," he said.

Zelensky thanked the US President.

"We discussed all aspects of the 20-point plan. We have almost completely agreed on many points. Security guarantees are key, we agreed 100% on them. We agreed that our teams will meet in the coming weeks to finalize this plan.
Ukraine is ready for peace. Thank you, Mr. President," said Zelensky.

Trump said that everyone wants to end the war, Ukraine, Russia, and the US.

"The issue of territory is key, we will discuss it in the coming months. Ukrainians need to reach an agreement, it's time for the war to end, both Russia and Ukraine want it," said Trump.

He praised the Ukrainians, stating that they were brave and fought.

"Unfortunately, many people have died," said Trump.

They answered journalists' questions.

"We talked about the 20-point plan. Our teams have been working on the plan for a month. The issue of Donbas is very difficult. Our position is clear and this is a very difficult issue. We have a different stance on it with the Russians," said Zelensky, adding that a referendum could be held on the issue.

Trump expressed expectations that everything should be finalized in a few weeks.

"They were very difficult talks. This is a very complex issue. I don't want to say when we will finish, but I think we will succeed," said Trump.

He said that Ukraine is an important country for Europe and that the EU has given a lot for its defense, and it is also important for the US, but that lives are the most important.

"In the next few weeks, we will know if this war will end. But it could also happen that everything fails due to some minor issue we haven't even considered. One war lasted 37 years, and I resolved it in one day," said Trump.

He stated that going to Ukraine is not his priority, but his main goal is to achieve a peace agreement to end the war, not a ceasefire.

Trump, however, revealed that he presented a concrete proposal to the Ukrainian side on how he could help resolve the situation.

"I offered to go and speak in their parliament. If that would help, I don't know if it would help. I think it probably would, but even then I don't know," he stated.

Following this statement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told Trump that he is welcome in Ukraine. Trump responded conditionally to the invitation. "I'm not sure if it would be really necessary, but if it would help save 25,000 lives a month or whatever it is, I would certainly be willing to do it," he concluded.
