Trump gives WHO 30 days to 'fix it'

(Patria) – US President Donald Trump told the Director-General of the World Health Organization via Twitter that if the WHO does not improve its performance in the next 30 days, the temporary freeze on funds will become 'permanent' and the US will also consider withdrawing from membership in this organization.

Trump also stated that the WHO has shown an 'alarming lack of independence' from China.

His message comes a day after it was announced that China pledged a donation of $2 billion to the WHO, which will somewhat compensate for the loss of US financial support to this organization.

China, in turn, accused Trump of trying to 'smear China' and 'avoid responsibility and obligations to the WHO'.

5 million infected

The number of confirmed infections worldwide has risen to 4,924,372, with 1,936,593 recovered. 321,997 have died, although a large number of victims are still not registered.

The highest number of deaths is in the US, exceeding 90,000, with over 1.5 million infections confirmed.

The number of confirmed coronavirus infections in Russia in the past 24 hours has increased by 9,263, bringing the total to 299,941.

This is the fourth consecutive day with an average slightly below 10,000, which Russian authorities consider a significant improvement.

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has returned to work after testing positive for Covid-19 himself.

He stated that the growth of new infections has been halted, but warned that the situation remains 'difficult'.

With the rise in new infections and victims, the number of unemployed is also increasing. In Great Britain, the unemployment rate in April jumped by 70%, so the number of citizens who lost their jobs due to the epidemic in that month is 2.1 million.

In April, more than 850,000 Britons applied for credit and unemployment benefits.
