(Patria) - After the assassination of right-wing activist and founder of Turning Point USA, Charlie Kirk, US President Donald Trump reacted. In a message posted on his Truth Social network, Trump said the event filled him with sadness and anger.
"Charlie inspired millions, and tonight everyone who knew and loved him is united in shock and horror. He was a patriot who dedicated his life to open debate and the country he loved so much – the United States of America," Trump said.
He added that there had never been anyone so respected by the youth, emphasizing that Kirk was a man of "deep, deep faith." "We are comforted by the knowledge that he is now at peace with God. This is a dark moment for America," he said.
Trump blamed the "radical left" for the incident: "We will find every one of those who contributed to this crime and other political violence. Radical left political violence has hurt too many innocent people."
He called on Americans to remain committed to the values Kirk championed – free speech, citizenship, the rule of law, patriotic loyalty, and faith in God.
"Charlie was the best of America, and the monster that attacked him attacked our entire country," Trump concluded.
