(Patria) - The first summit of African leaders in the second term of US President Donald Trump will be held next week in Washington, and heads of state from West and Central Africa will participate, Reuters reported, citing African media.
The meeting will be held from July 9 to 11, and Trump and leaders from Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania, and Senegal will attend, according to reports.
Trump's administration has cut some US aid to Africa as part of a plan to limit spending it considers wasteful and inconsistent with Trump's policy
"America First." It is stated that the aim is to focus on trade and investment and to encourage mutual prosperity.
On Tuesday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the United States is
abandoning what he called a charity-based model and will favor those nations that show "both the ability and willingness to help themselves."
US envoys in Africa will be evaluated based on achieved commercial agreements, said Troy Fitrel, a senior official from the Bureau of African Affairs, in May, describing it as a new strategy to support the continent.
