Trump to address joint session of Congress on March 4

(Patria) - U.S. President Donald Trump has been invited to address a joint session of Congress on March 4, Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson said on Saturday.

"It is my distinct honor and great privilege to invite President Donald Trump to address a Joint Session of Congress on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, to share his America First vision for our future," Johnson announced on social network X, attaching the invitation letter.

The letter was also published by his office, Reuters reported.

This will be Trump's first such address since taking office on January 20. Trump's Republican Party holds a narrow majority in the House of Representatives and a more comfortable majority in the Senate.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that Trump will address on March 4. The President will likely go through his agenda and goals for the year during his remarks.

Trump is pushing a plan to use revenue from higher tariffs on imported goods to help pay for a long-term trillion-dollar tax cut. He has threatened import tariffs but has not imposed them.

Lawmakers and analysts have said such a push is likely to face opposition from many Republicans in Congress, particularly budget hawks concerned about the reliability and durability of tariff revenue, as well as the potential dangers that trade wars pose to individual districts and voters.

The President and his allies say he wants to use tariffs like personal and corporate income taxes, which make up the vast majority of U.S. revenue, increasing tariffs to help pay for government programs and cover promised tax cuts.
