(Patria) - "Condé Nast Traveler" magazine has compiled a list of cities that are not on the tourist maps of European travelers, making an effort to present these destinations to its readers, reports b92.net.
Among these cities are three from the region – Koper, Opatija, and Mostar, places of incredible beauty that welcome every traveler in a special way.
Koper (Slovenia)
Koper is a charming pearl located in the Slovenian part of Istria, a city that combines Venetian history, stunning coastlines, and delicious cuisine.
The old town has labyrinthine streets where you can see the rich history of this once-successful port city, as well as churches and charming squares.
The city is still an important port in the region today, as it is close to Trieste and marks the entry point to Central and Eastern Europe.
Koper is the perfect base for exploring the coast and its vineyards, olive groves, and medieval hilltop villages.
Opatija (Croatia)
Although often overlooked today in favor of cities like Dubrovnik or Split, Opatija in the north is the cradle of tourism in Croatia, also known as "Vienna on the Sea" due to its Belle Epoque architecture.
The Opatija Riviera, a strip located between the forested slopes of the mountains and the rocky coast of the Kvarner Bay, was once the most visited resort of the old elite.
The Kvarner Bay is a sanctuary of health and wellness due to its unique microclimate that offers ideal conditions for therapeutic and regenerative travel, so Opatija also attracts tourists with attractive treatments in modern spa centers.
Just as the Opatija area combines sea and mountains, so does the visual experience of different styles. The encounter of opulent Central European elegance, Mediterranean charm, and medieval architecture makes Opatija an ideal romantic destination.
Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina)
Journalists stated in their report that Mostar is a city of relaxed energy with a mix of Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman architecture.
The city has numerous restaurants offering exceptionally tasty traditional cuisine.
There is also a beautiful old town center and the famous Old Bridge, after which the city is named.
The relaxed energy of the city is particularly interesting in the evening, when one listens to the calming sounds of the river with a glass of rakija.
