SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The City of Sarajevo has once again prepared a three-day New Year's Eve celebration on December 30th, 31st, and January 1st, 2020. Concerts on December 31st and January 1st, 2020, will be held at Trg BiH.
Organizers, led by the City of Sarajevo, have promised a top-notch musical and entertainment New Year's program with performances by major regional stars, with the message that Sarajevo will be the center of the region for three days and nights. This year, Sarajevans and numerous guests celebrating the New Year in this city will be entertained by Serbian singer Željko Joksimović.
"I have no doubt that we will have a spectacle at the same or a higher level than in previous years. So far, these concerts in Sarajevo have gathered more than 250,000 people. Thousands of tourists, our guests, have come to our capital because of this. Everyone benefits from it," said the Mayor of Sarajevo, Abdulah Skaka.
"It has become our recognizable brand, an inseparable part of Sarajevo. Citizens expect it from us, people from the region plan their vacations accordingly. We will not disappoint them," Skaka said.
A classical music concert, conducted by Professor Ognjen Bomoštar, has been announced for December 30th, which will take place in front of the Eternal Flame.
Joksimović did not hide his joy that he would be the one to usher Sarajevo into 2020, and he had an interesting message for the city authorities.
"I was thinking what to say, other than if this hadn't happened this year, I would seriously wonder why these people aren't calling me and if they were angry about something. Sarajevo has significantly marked my career and life. I don't feel like a guest, but like one of you," Joksimović said at the official presentation of the New Year's program.
He said that he repays Sarajevo in a way with his musical talent.
"I always remember the first concert at Košev in 2010, and then in 2016. Those were my two spectacular concerts. In 2006, I gifted Sarajevo the song 'Lejla', which Hari sang at Eurovision. That love has lasted for years, and Sarajevo always changes me and puts me back on the right path, on who I am and what I am. I think people recognize that, and I'm glad to be here," he added.
On the first day of 2020, the legendary band Zabranjeno pušenje will perform.
"We have based our entire career and work on these streets, people, and stories, so I should share my royalties with Sarajevans every year. That's why it's harder. Željko will be a good, dear guest, and I will have in front of me the people I have sung about and who are looking for me around town. After 35 years of career, Sarajevo is a concert before which I never sleep. I haven't shed that complex, and I hope we will justify it, that it will be a beautiful day, and that we will leave our hearts on the field," said Davor Sučić.
As part of the promotion "Sarajevo2020 – New Year's Center of the Region", the City of Sarajevo has produced a music video that tells a unique Sarajevo story about a city of love, a city of coexistence, a city of socializing, and hospitable people. But also a city of festivals and top events, among which its open-air New Year's Eve celebration in the past three years has launched it among the most desirable European destinations.
This is confirmed by the protagonists of the video with their messages: Fahrudin Pecikoza, Mario Drmač, Selma Riđanović, Ademir Kenović, Emir Hadžihafizbegović, Davor Sučić, Nudžejma Softić, and the Ambassador of Great Britain to BiH, Matthew Field. All of them cite sufficient reasons to come to the Sarajevo magic, confident that this time too, the Bosnian capital will be worthy of the title of the most desirable not only regional but also European New Year's center.
