Eight children admitted to the hospital in Trebinje this afternoon on suspicion of poisoning are in stable condition.
Seven children are currently with their parents, while one child is still on oxygen, confirmed for Nezavisne novine by the head of the Pediatrics Department of Trebinje Hospital, Ljiljana Buha.
She stated that poisoning is currently suspected, but the cause is unknown.
- The children had clinical signs of poisoning by an inhalation agent of unknown origin. We do not know why and how such clinical signs appeared.
They were clinically treated very quickly; within 15 minutes, all received the necessary therapy, all on oxygen, all on IV - Buha said.
She emphasized that the children were staying at the City of the Sun in Trebinje, but did not want to confirm that it was an alleged chlorine poisoning.
- What caused the poisoning, we cannot know. All inhalation toxins have very similar clinical signs, and therefore we cannot say that - Buha stated.
She added that at this moment, it cannot be assumed what might happen next, whether it is a mild, moderate, or severe poisoning, because in the next six to eight, or even 24 hours, these children may develop various complications, from pulmonary edema, inflammation, or other signs.
