Trebinje will count the damage from the largest forest fire for years

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The fifteen-day fire in Bijela Gora and Lastva near Trebinje left devastation and ashes over a vast area. 

Immeasurable damage was caused to flora and fauna, whose habitats were destroyed. According to initial estimates, about a thousand hectares of forest burned down. The Bijela Gora area includes the Orjen Nature Park, the lungs of this region, where black pine forests, beech forests, and pastures burned. 

„I am honestly afraid of what will happen to the water regime below Bijela Gora, as there could be temporary turbidity or changes in some springs in the Lastva area", says Drago Petković, technical director of the Karst Management Centre.

The damage from the largest forest fire in this area will be assessed in the coming years.
