Traces of explosives found on remains of EgyptAir crash victims

Analysis of the recorders in the EgyptAir plane, whose crash last May killed 66 passengers, indicated the presence of smoke in the toilets and other parts of the aircraft during the flight. Damage and soot were also found on the front part of the plane due to excessively high temperatures.

Egypt's Ministry of Civil Aviation announced the start of a criminal investigation into the crash of flight MS804.

Since the crash in May, investigators have so far managed to recover small pieces of the aircraft and human remains, while most of the plane with the victims' bodies remains under the sea.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack on the plane. The incident occurred seven months after the crash of a Russian plane over the Sinai Peninsula, shortly after takeoff from the Egyptian Red Sea, killing 224 passengers.

A local organization allied with the Islamic State at the time claimed responsibility for the downing of the Russian plane by placing an explosive device on board. Russian officials stated that there was a high probability that the aircraft crashed due to an explosion on the deck.
