Tragedy in France: 13 people killed in fire

In a fire that broke out last night in a cafe during a birthday celebration, 13 people were killed and six were injured in the city of Rouen in northern France, Patria reports.

Namely, the fire was caused by candles on a birthday cake that ignited the ceiling of the basement where the celebration was organized. According to a police statement, the victims died from inhaling toxic gases produced by a mixture of plastic materials in the flames. No explosion occurred, police sources confirmed, adding that birthday candles were the cause of the fire.

French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve stated in a press release that 13 people died in the fire, six were injured, one of whom is in critical condition.
