Tragedy in the Mediterranean: Boats carrying refugees capsize, at least 400 dead

Italian President Sergio Mattarella said that several hundred migrants lost their lives in a new tragedy in the Mediterranean, world media report, as carried by the Bosnian news agency Patria.

Croatian Index reports that according to unconfirmed media reports, which started with BBC Arabic, nearly 400 Somalis died after their overcrowded boats capsized off the Egyptian coast.

Mattarella, speaking at a cultural awards ceremony in Rome, said that another tragedy had occurred in the Mediterranean.

- Europe should reflect on yet another tragedy in which, it appears, several hundred people lost their lives - the Italian president said.

BBC Arabic cites the Somali ambassador to Egypt, who reported the shipwreck and a possible 400 victims, Patria reports.
