One of the busiest train stations in the world, from which one practically exits onto this intersection, is responsible for the high frequency of the crossing itself.

More than 2,500 people cross the Shibuya district pedestrian crossing during one "green" interval, and that number grows to a full million or even more in one day.

The pedestrian crossing itself cuts across ten traffic lanes, with five huge crosswalks connecting the busiest points of this bustling and modern district.

Giant screens, synchronized with each crossing, also guide pedestrians, further alerting them to the red or green traffic light, and displaying other information and notices such as weather forecasts.

Although it carries the nickname "strka" or "gužva" (rush or crowd), it is almost unbelievable that traffic flows without any delays or problems at this intersection.

The organized chaos of the world's busiest pedestrian crossing is a true picture of the madness and hustle of colorful Tokyo, so it is not unusual that it often inspires artists and amateurs alike.

Even if you have never been to Japan, you have surely "encountered" this pedestrian crossing in your hand, scrolling through some feed.

You might have spotted it in the third installment of "Fast and Furious," where they "drift" through Tokyo, or you might remember it from the movie "Lost in Translation" with Scarlett Johansson.
