Several high-ranking officials in the US State Department have resigned rather than serve under President Donald Trump, the Independent reported. New Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has been left without his entire senior team, Patria reports.
Three high-ranking officials decided to follow the example of Patrick Kennedy, who resigned upon hearing that his dismissal was being prepared, the Washington Post writes.
Kennedy served as deputy to all Secretaries of State for nine years. However, after Rex Tillerson was elected Secretary of State, he decided to resign.
Kennedy, as well as three other high-ranking officials Joyce Anne Barr, Michele Bond, and Gentry Smith, worked for administrations led by both Republicans and Democrats.
The State Department has been left "headless" in an operational sense, the Post stated, relaying the reaction of David Wade, Chief of Staff of the State Department during John Kerry's term, calling the departure of the four high-ranking officials "the biggest in the history of the ministry".
