UNSA Faculty of Mechanical Engineering team conquered Elbrus - the highest peak in Europe and Russia

(Patria) - A four-member team of employees from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Sarajevo - Adisa Dževlan, prof. dr. Hazim Bašić, prof. dr. Dževad Bibić and prof. dr. Marin Petrović - successfully realized the ascent of Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Russia and Europe.



With its western summit at 5,642 meters above sea level, Elbrus is an extinct stratovolcano located in the western Caucasus and represents one of the most demanding mountaineering challenges, requiring exceptional physical fitness, precise organization, and team discipline from climbers.



During the expedition, the team was accommodated at the Garabaši base ("Barrels") at approximately 3,800 meters above sea level, from where they performed an acclimatization ascent to Pastukhov Rocks (4,800) before the final ascent to the summit. This phase was crucial for the successful adaptation of the body to the altitude and preparation for the final climb.



In the early morning hours of Sunday, the team members set off from the base towards the summit, following a precisely planned route over Pastukhov Rocks, then across the saddle at about 5,300 meters above sea level and the final ascent through technically demanding terrain. At 5:28 AM, the team reached the western summit of Elbrus (5,642), successfully achieving their planned goal.



This achievement testifies to the high level of expertise, dedication, and team spirit of the expedition members, who, through thorough preparation, disciplined pace, and safe execution, demonstrated professionalism and academic-mountaineering enthusiasm.

Elbrus, with its unstable climate, location, snow, and ice surfaces, requires precise preparation and discipline - and the team demonstrated exactly that.
