Tillerson in Ankara: Syria and Fethullah Gülen on the agenda

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson plans an official visit to Turkey on Thursday. Syria and the extradition of Turkish cleric Fethullah Gülen, who resides in America and whom official Turkey accuses of the failed coup last July, will be on the agenda, reports Patria.  

Turkish media write that Tillerson will discuss efforts to stabilize the returned areas in Syria in Ankara.

Reuters states that Tillerson will not meet with members of Turkish opposition groups.

The US Secretary of State's visit comes at a sensitive time as Turkey prepares for a referendum on April 16 on constitutional changes that would give the Turkish president new powers.

A senior US State Department official stated that Tillerson will meet with Erdogan and government ministers involved in the fight against ISIL in Syria, writes Reuters.
