(Patria) - A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi made a "hard landing" on Sunday, Iranian state television reported, without further explanation.
Raisi was traveling to Iran's East Azerbaijan province. State TV said the incident occurred near Jolfa, a city on the border with Azerbaijan, about 600 kilometers (375 miles) northwest of Iran's capital, Tehran, AP reports.
Rescuers were trying to reach the location, state television said, but were hampered by poor weather conditions in the area. Heavy rain and wind were reported.
Raisi was in Azerbaijan earlier on Sunday to inaugurate a dam with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. It is the third dam the two countries have built on the Aras River.
