Serious accident in Slovenia: Avalanche sweeps away 7 people, rescue operation underway

(Patria) - On Sunday in Slovenia, at the popular ski resort Mala Mojstrovka, seven people were swept away by an avalanche about a hundred meters long. According to N1 Slovenia, two seriously injured have already been transported to the Ljubljana clinical center.

The rescue operation is still ongoing, although snow and fog are complicating the situation.

The accident occurred around 10 AM, and two people were seriously injured and three lightly injured in the accident. Two people escaped unharmed.

As N1 Slovenia reports, it has started snowing again, which is making conditions difficult. According to initial police information, a group of seven people set off along the Župančič ridge towards Mala Mojstrovka. When they passed the ridge, they were swept away by an avalanche.

Fifty rescuers from the mountain rescue services of Kranjska Gora, Mojstrana, Rateče, and Bovec, a helicopter of the Slovenian Army with representatives of the GRZS helicopter emergency medical team, and a helicopter of the Air Police Unit are participating in the rescue operation.

Both helicopters have "extremely limited rescue capabilities" due to fog and difficult weather conditions, warned GRZS.

Weather conditions at the scene are very poor, visibility is low, and the rescue of the injured is "very demanding and time-consuming," confirmed the spokesperson for the Nova Gorica Police Administration, Dean Božnik.
