Serious accident on Šolta: Three young Austrians cut by a speedboat propeller

Two girls and one boy, all 20-year-old Austrian citizens, were seriously injured when a speedboat ran into them in Nečujam on the island of Šolta on Monday at 2:20 PM and cut them with its propeller. The young Austrians, several of them, were having fun riding a banana boat, from which they fell into the sea, after which the speedboat that was towing them ran into them, reports the Patria News Agency.

It caught them with its propeller and seriously injured three of them, with the worst being a girl whose legs were broken and cut by the propeller. The speedboat driver, a Croatian in his twenties, immediately stopped and started calling for help.

Bathers immediately came to the aid of the unfortunate Austrians, and after medics provided them with first aid, they were transported by HRZ helicopter to the KBC Split. They were admitted by the staff of the Emergency Surgery Department and taken for surgery.

The injured Austrians are part of a group of about three hundred young people sailing the Adriatic on an excursion. They arrived in Nečujam on Monday morning on four larger boats and about sixty sailboats. According to the local population, the young Austrians started with entertainment and alcohol as early as mid-morning. They were fooling around in the bay with the banana boat and speeding with speedboats until the accident, writes 24sata.hr.
