Trump and Putin's phone call: New US President called on Russia to refrain from escalating the war in Ukraine

(Patria) - World media report that the newly elected US President Donald Trump
spoke by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday, and the topic was the war in Ukraine, the Washington Post reported on Sunday, citing people familiar with the matter.

Trump advised Putin not to escalate the war in Ukraine and reminded him of the "significant US military presence in Europe," the Post reported.

During the election campaign, Trump said he would find a solution to end the war "within a day," but did not explain how he would do it.

WP said two sources indicated that the Ukrainian government had been informed of Putin's call - and that they did not object to the conversation taking place.
