Strobe Talbot, former US Deputy Secretary of State and associate of Bill Clinton, compared the current Russian President Vladimir Putin to Slobodan Milošević, reports the BH News Agency Patria (NAP).
Talbot has been heading the reputable Brookings Institution for years and, in a text carried by American media, spoke extensively about the change in Russian policy towards the West, in connection with the crisis in Ukraine. According to him, Putin's annexation of Crimea is leading to the disintegration of Russia and destabilizing a large number of Russian neighbors.
According to him, Putin has violated the policy and promise of Boris Yeltsin, who, when the Soviet Union was disintegrating, abandoned territorial pretensions and border changes. In this way, he emulated Milošević, who, during the breakup of Yugoslavia, tried to annex parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia to Serbia.
- If he annexes Crimea to Russia, he will thus deny Yeltsin's policy and follow Milošević's example – Talbot stated, reports the BH News Agency Patria. Talbot was also the chief advisor to Warren Christopher, US Secretary of State during the Dayton negotiations, and Talbot himself was born in Dayton.
