
Masked attackers stormed a university in the Kenyan city of Garissa. Police report that clashes are currently underway inside the university. At the time of the attack, hundreds of students were on the university campus, CNN reports.
Witnesses told local media that explosions and gunfire could be heard, and that ambulances were already on standby at the scene. The attack began at dawn, journalist Alinoor Moulid told Al Jazeera.
Milka Ndung', one of the witnesses to the attack, told CNN that the shots began to echo as early as 5 AM, "like fireworks." She added that she and other students fled across the fields, but that the gunfire followed them as they ran.
According to students who fled, about 5 attackers stormed the dormitories while students were sleeping. The Kenyan army also arrived at the university.
Local media report that 30 people have been wounded in the clashes so far, 4 of whom are in critical condition, and it is also known that 14 people have died.
