TAIEX Inter-State Workshop on Gender-Based Violence and Equal Access to Justice

(Patria) - The High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH (HJPC BiH), in cooperation with the General Directorate of the European Commission for Enlargement through the Technical/Advisory Assistance and Information Exchange Instrument (TAIEX), is organizing a two-day inter-state workshop titled "Gender-Based Violence and Equal Access to Justice".

The aim of the workshop is to raise awareness about gender-based violence and equal access to justice, establish cooperation with European Union member states, and exchange experiences and best practices, particularly in cases of violence against women, between Bosnia and Herzegovina, the countries of the region, and EU member states.

The workshop will be attended by EU experts and guest speakers from the Western Balkans, who will present their countries' experiences concerning gender-based violence and equal access to justice, as well as measures aimed at preventing and resolving these cases. Best practices in providing adequate support to victims of gender-based violence and ensuring equal access to justice will also be discussed.

The workshop will be opened by Khaldoun Sinno, Chargé d'Affaires of the European Union Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Selim Karamehić, member of the Council and judge of the Basic Court in Brčko District of BiH, and H.E. Anders Hagelberg, Ambassador of Sweden to BiH.

Representatives of the police, courts, and prosecution, as well as relevant ministries, who are the main actors in establishing an adequate protection mechanism, will attend the workshop. Representatives of non-governmental organizations that provide support for raising awareness and promoting the prevention of gender-based violence and improving access to justice have also been invited.
