(Patria) - Representatives of associations of victims and witnesses of genocide and the Movement "Mothers of the Enclaves of Srebrenica and Žepa" met in New York with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres.

The presidents of the associations, Munira Subašić and Murat Tahirović, told Patria that they presented the associations' conclusions to Guterres.

"The UN Secretary-General promised to work on protecting verdicts and fighting against the denial of verdicts, i.e., glorifying criminals. He promised that UN services will look for a model and launch a campaign on how to stop deniers," Tahirović and Subašić told Patria.

Victim associations also requested the establishment of a reparation fund to be supported by the UN and the European Union, which would operate for all victims of the Yugoslav wars. As they told us, Guterres will propose a reparation plan for all victims in Europe next week.

"We asked for a resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica to be adopted by the UN General Assembly. It was agreed that Bosnia and Herzegovina and the victims would find a country to submit the appeal, and Guterres will seek help from UN member states to vote on the resolution," the victim representatives stated.

On this occasion, Guterres was presented with an invitation to come to Potočari on July 11, the Day of Remembrance of the genocide in Srebrenica, committed by the armies of Serbia and the entity of Rs in July 1995.

As Tahirović and Subašić confirmed to us, they also discussed the Hague archives, regarding the initiative of the member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović, to house the Hague material in BiH under the patronage of the UN.

The representatives of the associations supported this initiative and asked Guterres to support it as well.

"We requested that a memorial room be opened at the UN, which would house all the verdicts of the ICTY, and what the Mothers of Srebrenica have done, the Srebrenica flower, carpets... and that a permanent place be secured in the UN General Assembly for the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica, similar to the place for Holocaust victims," Tahirović and Subašić concluded in their conversation with Patria, who are continuing their substantive visit to international institutions in New York.
