(Patria) - Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has signed the law "On Celebrations and Ceremonies" which bans wearing clothing that is not in the spirit of the country's culture, reports RIA Novosti agency.
After the country's Senate adopted amendments banning the wearing of clothing that is "foreign" to Tajik culture, the president affixed his signature to it.
In addition, the law on celebrations and ceremonies now envisages a ban on "idgardaks", a type of children's songs for the holidays of Ramadan and Eid al-Adha.
The draft of this law was submitted to parliament by the President of Tajikistan, adopted by deputies of the lower house, and approved by senators on June 19.
Non-compliance with the law carries a fine, but it has not yet been specified which type of clothing is considered "foreign to national culture" and is banned for sale and wearing.
