(Patria) - The future of Greenland is not a matter for the European Union, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said yesterday during a visit to Prague, as Hungary signals it will not support a joint EU statement on the issue.
- We consider this a bilateral issue that can be resolved through talks between the two sides... I do not think this is an EU matter - Szijjártó said.
His statement comes after US President Donald Trump intensified his efforts to strip Denmark, a NATO member, of sovereignty over Greenland.
Earlier, Trump stated that security reasons are key to his desire to take control of Greenland, suggesting that Russia and China could take control of the Arctic if Washington does not.
