World officials welcome peace deal and call for food delivery to Gaza, Trump says it's a 'big day'

(Patria) - There have been numerous reactions to the agreement between Israel and Hamas on the first phase of US President Donald Trump's plan for Gaza, with world leaders calling on both sides to respect the agreement and release the hostages.

US President Donald Trump also commented on the Truth Social network.

"I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have signed the first phase of our peace plan.

This means ALL hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw its troops to an agreed line as a first step towards a strong, lasting, and eternal peace. All parties will be treated fairly! This is a BIG day for the Arab and Muslim world, Israel, all surrounding nations, and the United States of America. We thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, who worked with us to make this historic and unprecedented event happen. BLESSED BE THE PEACEMAKERS!", the US President stated.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said it was a "big day for Israel".

"I will convene a government session to approve the agreement and bring all our dear hostages home. I thank the heroic soldiers of the IDF and all security forces – thanks to their courage and sacrifice, we have reached this day," Netanyahu said.

Hamas announced that it appreciates the efforts of all mediators and called on them to "force the occupying government" to adhere to the agreed terms.

"We call on President Trump, the guarantor states of the agreement, and all Arab, Islamic, and international parties to force the occupying government to fully fulfill its obligations under the agreement and prevent it from evading or delaying the implementation of what has been agreed upon," Hamas stated.

European leaders welcome the agreed first phase and call on all parties to fulfill their obligations.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan announced on X that he thanks US President Donald Trump, "who showed the necessary political will to encourage the Israeli government to a ceasefire", as well as Qatar and Egypt.

French President Emmanuel Macron stated that France will continue discussions with international partners to find a political solution to the war.

"This agreement must mark the end of the war and the beginning of a political solution based on the two-state solution," Macron announced on X.

"France is ready to contribute to this goal. We will discuss this this afternoon in Paris with our international partners," the French President added.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called for the agreement to be implemented fully and without delay, as well as for all restrictions on humanitarian aid to Gaza to be lifted immediately.

"We call on all parties to fulfill their commitments, to end the war, and to build the foundations for a just and lasting end to the conflict and a sustainable path towards long-term peace," Starmer said.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that Germany is still monitoring the situation regarding US President Trump's agreement on Gaza, but is confident that a solution will be found this week.

"We are encouraged by the events in Israel. There is clearly a great chance of reaching an agreement with Hamas in the next few hours," Merz said after a meeting with members of his ruling coalition in Berlin.

Italy is ready to send peacekeeping forces to Gaza if necessary.

"Italy, which has always supported the American plan, is ready to contribute to consolidating the ceasefire, delivering new humanitarian aid, and participating in the reconstruction of Gaza. We are also ready to send troops if international peacekeeping forces are formed for the reunification of Palestine," announced Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the agreement on Thursday and praised the diplomatic efforts of the United States, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey.

"Now all parties must fully adhere to the terms of the agreement. All hostages must be safely released. A lasting ceasefire must be established. The suffering must stop," von der Leyen announced on X.

Von der Leyen added that the EU will continue to support aid deliveries to Gaza and is ready to help with reconstruction, and the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, described the agreement as a "major diplomatic achievement".

"I call on all involved to fully adhere to the terms of the agreement. All hostages must be released with dignity. A lasting ceasefire must be ensured. The fighting must stop once and for all. Immediate and unimpeded entry of humanitarian aid and essential commercial materials into Gaza must be ensured. The suffering must stop," stated UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in his reaction.
